Digital coup anniversary event

To mark one year since the military banned Facebook in Myanmar, join us in a discussion on the “digital coup”.

The event will hear from four speakers from different sectors each with an expert understanding of the topic:

  • Khoe Reh – the Head of Myanmar Public Policy, at Meta, formally Facebook.
  • “Moe Myint Kyaw” – an anonymous Myanmar ICT practitioner with years working inside Myanmar’s digital businesses
  • “Aiden Moe” – an anonymous Myanmar social media researcher who has spoken internationally about online hate speech and propaganda
  • Yin Yadanar Thien – Director of the human rights organisation, Free Expression Myanmar

The four panelists will discuss how the digital coup evolved, how social media and telcos responded, and how the military has tried to spread their propaganda and do surveillance.

Please register here. (Registering for Zoom means you can ask questions in Q&A session.)

The event will be moderated by Ploy. It is organised by FEM in partnership with Digital Reach. Both are members of the Southeast Asian Coalition on Tech Accountability (SEACT).
